How to Get a Transcript of a Vimeo Live Event Replay (2026)

Vimeo event links (vimeo.com/event/…) now transcribe straight from the link. Which event links work, what a long replay costs, and what happens when an event is locked.

Short answer

Once the broadcast has ended, paste the event's link — vimeo.com/event/ plus its number, or the /register page from your invitation — into SubGrab. It finds the replay, charges one credit per started hour and returns a timestamped transcript. An event that is still live is refused before any charge; a locked one fails and is refunded automatically.

Vimeo Events is where a lot of webinars, town halls, product launches and graduations now happen: one link, vimeo.com/event/ and a number, that shows the stream while it runs and the replay afterwards. Until this week SubGrab turned those links away with "Invalid URL" — they were refused nine times in the four days before we fixed it. They work now. Here is what to paste, what it costs, and what still cannot be read.

Which event links work

Paste the link exactly as Vimeo gave it. All of these are accepted:

  • The event page: vimeo.com/event/1234567
  • The registration page from an invitation email: vimeo.com/event/1234567/register
  • An unlisted event, with its access code on the end: vimeo.com/event/1234567/a1b2c3d4e5 — keep the code, it is the key
  • The embed link an organizer shares: vimeo.com/event/1234567/embed
  • One video inside an event: vimeo.com/event/1234567/videos/987654321

The quote appears straight away. For an event, the exact running time — and with it the exact price — fills in shortly after, while you are reading the confirm screen.

What we tested

We ran Vimeo's own public sample events through the same servers that transcribe your links. A 2-hour-43-minute commencement replay, a 1-hour-19-minute talk and a 1-hour-10-minute unlisted event all resolved from their event links, each with its full running time, which is what the price is calculated from.

The ones that failed, failed for honest reasons: one was password-protected, one was embed-only, one had been deleted and one was still streaming. Those are the four cases worth knowing about.

When an event can't be transcribed

It is still live. A broadcast that has not ended has no finished recording, so there is nothing to transcribe yet. SubGrab checks for this before charging anything and tells you to come back after the stream.

It is password-protected. The event page asks for a password. SubGrab cannot type one in, so the job fails and the credit comes straight back. Ask the organizer for an unlocked link.

It is embed-only. The event plays only inside the organizer's own website and nowhere else. That is a deliberate setting, explained properly in Vimeo embed-only videos.

It has been removed. Organizers sometimes delete a replay after a few days or weeks. If the event page plays nothing for you in a private browsing window, it will not play for us either.

Each of these is refunded automatically if it gets as far as a charge. You never pay for a transcript you did not get.

What it costs

One credit per started hour, the same as every other link:

  • a 50-minute session: 1 credit
  • a 1-hour-19-minute talk: 2 credits
  • a 2-hour-43-minute commencement: 3 credits

New accounts start with 2 free credits, and pricing lists the packs.

A tip for multi-session events

If an event page lists several sessions as separate videos, open the one you want and paste its own link, the one ending /videos/ and a number. SubGrab first looks for captions the organizer uploaded for that video; when Vimeo hands them over, you get the transcript in seconds for one credit, however long the session runs.

What to do with the transcript

A two-hour event transcript is long. The AI summary turns it into key points and a timeline with quotes, and transcribing a webinar recording covers turning a session into notes, a recap post or show notes.

For ordinary Vimeo videos — public, unlisted, or from your own dashboard — start at the Vimeo transcript tool.

Frequently asked

Can I transcribe a Vimeo live event while it is still streaming?

No. Until the broadcast ends there is no finished recording to read, so SubGrab refuses a live event before charging anything. Paste the same link again after the stream — the replay normally appears on the same event page once the organizer's recording is ready.

Which Vimeo event link should I paste?

Any of the event's own links: the event page (vimeo.com/event/1234567), the registration page from your invitation (ending /register), an unlisted event link with its access code on the end, the embed link, or the link to one video inside the event (ending /videos/ and a number). Paste it exactly as Vimeo gave it.

What does it cost to transcribe a three-hour event replay?

Three credits. SubGrab charges one credit for anything up to an hour and one per started hour after that, so a 2-hour-43-minute replay is 3 credits and a 61-minute one is 2. The price is on the confirm screen before you pay, and a failed job is refunded.

Why does SubGrab say a Vimeo event is embed-only or password-protected?

Because the organizer locked it. An embed-only event plays only on the organizer's own website, and a password-protected one needs a password SubGrab cannot enter. Ask the organizer for an unlocked link, or transcribe a recording you were sent as a file instead.
