What if the video has no captions?

SubGrab detects when captions are unavailable and offers AI transcription instead. AI transcription costs 1 credit for videos up to 60 minutes. Longer videos cost 1 credit per 60 minutes (e.g. a 2-hour video costs 2 credits). It works for any video with audible speech, across all 28 platforms.

What are credits and how much do they cost?

Credits are used for every action: extracting captions (1 credit), AI transcription (1 credit per 60 minutes of video), or AI summary (1 credit). Every new account gets 2 free credits. Credit packs: 3 for $2.99, 10 for $5.99, 30 for $11.99, 80 for $22.99, or 200 for $44.99 (the Power pack is the best per-credit value at $0.22 each). Your first purchase includes bonus credits on every pack — for example the $11.99 Popular pack gives 50 credits (30 + 20 bonus) the first time. Credits never expire.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free account is required. Signing up takes seconds via magic link email — no password needed. Every new account gets 2 free credits to get started, plus your first AI summary is free on top of that.

What is an AI summary?

After extracting a transcript, SubGrab can generate a detailed AI summary: an overview, a chapter-by-chapter breakdown with timestamps covering the whole video, key takeaways, notable quotes, and the facts and figures mentioned. Detail scales with length — a 3-hour podcast gets a much deeper summary than a 60-second reel — and the summary is written in the video's own language. Summaries cost 1 credit, but your very first summary is free.

How accurate is the AI transcription?

Our AI achieves 98%+ accuracy for clear speech and supports 90+ languages. Accuracy may vary depending on audio quality, background noise, and accents. For most videos with clear audio, you can expect near-perfect results.

What formats can I download transcripts in?

You can download transcripts in three formats: TXT (plain text), SRT (SubRip subtitle format), and VTT (WebVTT format). You can also copy the full transcript to your clipboard with one click.

Is there a first-purchase bonus?

Yes — your very first credit purchase includes bonus credits on every pack, applied automatically. For example: Micro gives 5 credits instead of 3, Starter 15 instead of 10, Popular 50 instead of 30, Pro 120 instead of 80, and Power 300 instead of 200. How do I buy more credits?

Hit 'Buy Credits' anywhere you see it — on the pricing page, the dashboard, the header, or from the in-app prompt that appears when you run out. Checkout is Stripe-hosted: enter your card once, the next purchase is 1-click. Your card is saved securely with Stripe (we never see or store card numbers) and can be removed any time from the dashboard.

Is 1-click purchase secure?

Yes. SubGrab uses Stripe (PCI Level 1, the highest payment-security standard) to handle all card data. Your card is tokenised by Stripe and never touches our servers — we only store an opaque Stripe customer ID. When you make a repeat purchase, the charge happens off-session on the same saved card and is governed by the same fraud + 3-D Secure protections as the first transaction. You can remove the saved card from your dashboard at any time.

Can I get a refund if something goes wrong?

Yes. Credits are automatically refunded if an extraction or AI transcription fails — you only pay for successful results. If you bought a credit pack and want a refund within 7 days of purchase, email help@subgrab.com and we'll process it.

I haven't used SubGrab in a while — is my account still there?

Yes. Your account, your credits, and your past transcripts are all still there — they don't expire and aren't deleted for inactivity. Just sign in with the same email you signed up with (magic link will arrive in seconds). If you've forgotten which email you used, write to help@subgrab.com from any address that might match.

How do I stop or change email notifications from SubGrab?

Every marketing or product-update email we send carries an Unsubscribe link in the footer — one click unsubscribes you immediately. Gmail and Outlook also surface a built-in Unsubscribe button at the top of our messages. You'll still receive essential account emails (sign-in links, payment receipts, security notices) since you need those to use the product — there's no way to turn those off short of deleting your account (which you can request via help@subgrab.com).

Does SubGrab work with YouTube Shorts?

Yes. SubGrab supports YouTube Shorts URLs. Paste a Shorts URL (youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID) and extract the transcript the same way as a regular YouTube video. Most Shorts have auto-captions that SubGrab can extract.

Can I transcribe Facebook and Instagram videos?

Yes! SubGrab supports Facebook videos, Facebook Reels, Instagram Reels, and Instagram video posts. Since these platforms don't offer transcript downloads, SubGrab uses AI to transcribe the audio. Just paste the video URL — the facebook.com/share/v/ and /share/r/ links the mobile app's share sheet copies both work, as do facebook.com/watch, facebook.com/reel, instagram.com/reel and fb.watch short links. The one thing that won't work is a video Facebook only shows to logged-in viewers: posts limited to friends or followers, and most group posts. Public videos are fine — if you can open the link in a private browsing window, we can read it.

Does SubGrab work with X/Twitter videos?

Yes. Paste any tweet URL containing a video from x.com or twitter.com. SubGrab uses AI to transcribe the audio. This is especially useful for journalists and researchers who need exact quotes from video tweets.

Can I download Loom transcripts?

Yes! Loom auto-generates transcripts but locks them inside the player — you can't copy or download them. SubGrab lets you extract a downloadable transcript from any Loom recording as TXT, SRT, or VTT. Paste any loom.com/share/ URL to get started.

Can I transcribe Twitch VODs?

Yes! SubGrab supports Twitch VODs up to 10 hours long. Since VODs don't have captions, our AI transcribes the audio directly. Credit cost is 1 credit per 60 minutes — so a 2-hour VOD costs 2 credits and an 8-hour stream costs 8. This is especially useful since Twitch broadcasts expire after 14 days — save the transcript before it's gone.

How long can a video be? What does a long video cost?

Videos and livestream VODs up to 10 hours are supported from a URL. Pricing is simple and per-hour: 1 credit covers up to 60 minutes, so a 45-minute lecture is 1 credit, a 2-hour VOD is 2, and an 8-hour stream is 8. You always see the exact credit cost and confirm it before anything is charged, and if the transcription fails the credits are refunded automatically. Uploaded files are the one exception — because your browser extracts the audio before sending it, uploads are limited by file size to roughly 50 minutes; for anything longer, paste the URL instead.

Can I transcribe Kick streams?

Yes. Paste a Kick VOD link (kick.com/channel/videos/...) or a clip link and SubGrab pulls the audio and transcribes it — Kick has no captions of its own. Kick VODs are whole unedited broadcasts, typically 6 to 8 hours, and those are supported: the limit is 10 hours, charged at 1 credit per hour. An AI summary on top is the fastest way to find the good moments in a stream that long.

Can I transcribe podcasts or audio (SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts)?

Yes. SubGrab transcribes audio, not just video. Paste a public SoundCloud track or an Apple Podcasts episode link (the one with ?i= for a specific episode) and the AI turns the audio into a full, timestamped transcript. It's ideal for show notes, pulling exact quotes, and making long episodes searchable — and you can generate an AI summary to read an hour-long episode in a minute.

Can I transcribe a video or audio file from Google Drive or Dropbox?

Yes. Set the file to 'Anyone with the link', copy the share link, and paste it into SubGrab — it reads the media straight from Google Drive or Dropbox and transcribes it with AI. No download and no re-upload. This is great for recorded meetings, lectures, voice memos, and raw footage that was never published to a video platform. Two different things can stop a link, and they need opposite responses: if the file isn't shared, set it to 'Anyone with the link' and it will work. But if you're told the file has hit Google's viewing limit for signed-out visitors, that's Google throttling a popular file — it isn't a problem with your sharing settings and changing them won't help. Wait a while and try again, or upload the file directly.

How does SubGrab compare to YouTube's built-in transcript?

What won't work on Instagram

Posts from private accounts. Instagram returns an empty media response rather than an error, so there is nothing to transcribe.
Stories that have already expired, and posts deleted since the link was shared.
Anything that asks you to log in before it will play.

Check before you spend a credit: Open the link in a private/incognito window. That window is signed out, exactly like our servers — if it plays there, we can transcribe it.

If a transcript does fail, the credit goes back automatically — every failed transcript is refunded.
