JW.org Video Transcripts in Your Own Language

JW.org publishes its videos in hundreds of languages. How to get a transcript in the language you watch in, what the language letters in a JW.org link mean, and which videos have subtitles.

Short answer

Open or share the video on JW.org in the language you want, then paste that link into SubGrab. The link carries JW.org's language code, such as E for English or S for Spanish, and the transcript comes from JW.org's own subtitles in that language. When a video has none, AI transcription of that language's audio is offered instead.

JW.org's own language list names 312 languages, 50 of them sign languages. Many of its videos come with subtitles in the language you watch in, and SubGrab turns those subtitles into a transcript you can read, search and download.

The language is in the link

Every JW.org video link names one language. In a Share link it comes after wtlocale=. In the address of JW.org's video library it is a short name after the #, and SubGrab translates it into JW.org's own code.

LanguageIn a Share linkIn the library address
EnglishEen

Portuguese (Brazil)Tpt
FrenchFfr
GermanXde
JapaneseJja
KoreanKOko
TagalogTGtl

To get a transcript in Spanish, switch JW.org to Spanish, open the video and share it from there.

One video, two languages, two transcripts

Each language is its own version of the video, with its own subtitles, so each gives its own transcript. The October 2026 JW Broadcasting program came back as 1,008 lines in English, starting "Welcome to JW Broadcasting®", and 1,042 lines in Spanish, starting "Bienvenidos a JW Broadcasting®".

Which videos have subtitles

We checked JW Broadcasting on JW.org in October 2026:

LanguageMonthly programsTalks
English68 of 6896 of 109
Spanish68 of 6894 of 108
French68 of 6897 of 109
German68 of 68108 of 109
Portuguese (Brazil)67 of 6883 of 109
American Sign Language0 of 670 of 109

A transcript from subtitles costs 1 credit, whatever the video's length, and arrives in seconds.

When there are no subtitles in your language

SubGrab returns the subtitle credit and offers an AI transcription of that language's version of the video instead. It costs 1 credit per hour of audio, and the price is shown before anything is charged. AI transcription supports 90+ languages.

Sign-language videos

Signing has no spoken words, and the sign-language versions we checked had no subtitles, so SubGrab has nothing to transcribe. It says so and returns the credit. To read what a sign-language video says, open the same video in a spoken language and paste that link.

Download the subtitles as a file

JW.org shows subtitles under the player. SubGrab gives you the same text with its timestamps as a TXT, SRT or VTT file, for reading offline, printing, or loading into a video player.

For which links work and what happens when you paste one, see How to Get a Transcript of a JW.org Video. JW Broadcasting has its own guide: How to Get a Transcript of a JW Broadcasting Program.

Frequently asked

What does wtlocale=E mean in a JW.org link?

It is JW.org's code for the video's language: E is English, S Spanish, T Portuguese (Brazil), F French and X German. SubGrab gives you the transcript in the language the link names.

Can I transcribe a sign-language video from JW.org?

No. Signing has no spoken words, and the sign-language versions we checked had no subtitles, so there is nothing to transcribe. Open the same video in a spoken language and paste that link instead.

Which languages can SubGrab transcribe from JW.org?

Any language JW.org publishes subtitles in, because the transcript comes from those subtitles. For a video without subtitles, AI transcription supports 90+ languages.
