Kick VOD Link Won't Transcribe? Private, Subscriber-Only, Expired and Live VODs

Why some Kick VOD links can't be transcribed: the VOD is private, for subscribers only, expired, deleted, still live or over 10 hours. How to tell which, and what you can do about each.

Short answer

A Kick VOD link fails when Kick itself won't serve the video to someone who isn't signed in: the streamer made it private or subscriber-only, it expired or was deleted, the broadcast is still live, or it runs over 10 hours. SubGrab checks for each of these before charging and tells you which one it is.

A Kick VOD link looks the same whether anyone outside the channel can watch it or not. Most links work: of the Kick VOD links our users transcribed in the 60 days to 14 October 2026, 92% completed (125 of 136). Every failure since 10 October was one of the cases below, a VOD that was private or one that ran over 10 hours.

Here is what each case means, how to tell which one you have, and what you can do about it.

The Six Reasons a Kick VOD Won't Transcribe

ReasonWhat SubGrab tells youCan you fix it?
The streamer made the VOD private"This Kick VOD is private"Only the streamer, by making it public
The VOD is for subscribers only"This VOD is subscriber-only"No. It needs a subscription, and SubGrab doesn't sign in to channels
The VOD was deleted"This Kick VOD no longer exists"No
The VOD expired"This Kick VOD no longer exists"No. See how long Kick keeps VODs, below
The broadcast is still live"This stream is still live"Yes. Wait until it ends, then paste again
The recording is over 10 hours"Videos over 10 hours are not supported"Use a clip, or trim it and upload the file

In every one of these cases you are told before any credit is taken. If a VOD changes after you paste it, for example the streamer makes it private while your transcription is queued, the credit is refunded automatically.

How Long Kick Keeps VODs

Kick VODs are not permanent, and each VOD page carries the date it expires. We read that date on 10 VODs from 10 different channels on 14 October 2026:

Time from stream start to expiryVODs
30 days9
7 days1

So a VOD from last month may already be gone, and on some channels a VOD from last week. If a stream matters, transcribe it soon after it ends. The text outlives the video.

Private and Subscriber-Only VODs

A streamer can hide a VOD completely, or keep it for paying subscribers. Either way the video plays for some people and not others, which is why a link can work for you and fail for us. You might be signed in as a subscriber, a moderator or the channel's owner.

SubGrab fetches a VOD the way a signed-out visitor sees it. It doesn't use anyone's Kick account, so a private or subscriber-only VOD can't be transcribed from its link. If the VOD is yours, make it public and paste the link again. If you have the recording as a file, upload it instead.

Still Live

While a stream is live, its VOD link already exists, but there is no finished recording behind it yet. A download would follow the live stream until it ended, so SubGrab doesn't start one. Paste the link again once the broadcast is over.

Over 10 Hours

Full VODs of up to 10 hours are supported, which covers most broadcasts. For a longer one, transcribe a clip of the part you need, or download the VOD, trim it, and upload the section. How to transcribe a full livestream VOD covers long recordings and what they cost.

Check a Link Before You Paste It

Open the VOD in a private or incognito window, where you are not signed in to Kick. If it plays there, SubGrab can almost always reach it. If it doesn't, the table above covers why.

Kick links come in two kinds, and both work:

  • VODs: kick.com/channel/videos/…
  • Clips: kick.com/channel/clips/… or kick.com/channel?clip=…

For the normal workflow and what a Kick transcript costs, see how to get a Kick VOD or clip transcript, or paste a link on the Kick transcript page.

Frequently asked

Why is a Kick VOD private when I can watch it?

You are probably signed in to Kick, and a VOD can be visible to the channel's owner, moderators or subscribers but not to everyone. SubGrab fetches VODs the way a signed-out visitor would. Open the link in a private browser window: if it doesn't play there, it can't be transcribed from the link.

How long does Kick keep VODs?

Not forever. Kick's VOD pages carry an expiry date. On 10 VODs from 10 channels we checked on 14 October 2026, 9 expired 30 days after the stream started and 1 after 7 days. Transcribe a stream you care about soon after it ends.

Am I charged when a Kick VOD can't be transcribed?

No. SubGrab checks whether the VOD is live, private, subscriber-only, gone or over 10 hours before it takes a credit. If a VOD changes between your paste and the transcription, for example the streamer makes it private, the credit is refunded automatically.

Can I transcribe a stream that is still live?

Not until it ends. A live broadcast has no finished recording, so there is nothing complete to download. Paste the link again once the broadcast is over and the VOD is published.
