How to Get a Transcript of a Telegram Video
Telegram channels carry news clips, briefings and long voice posts with no captions and no search. Here is how to turn a public channel post into timestamped text.
Telegram has become a serious publishing platform. Over a billion people use it monthly, and its channels are where a lot of news outlets, analysts and independent reporters now post first. Much of that is video.
None of it is captioned, and none of it is searchable. A twenty-minute briefing posted to a channel is a wall of pixels: you cannot skim it, quote it, or find the part that matters without watching the whole thing.
Why Telegram has no captions
Telegram is a messaging platform that grew into a broadcasting one. Channels were not designed as a video service, so there is no captioning pipeline, no transcript panel, and no subtitle track on an uploaded file. A video posted to a channel is just a file attached to a message.
That is fine for a viewer and useless for anyone trying to work with the content.

Which Telegram links work
A post link looks like a channel name followed by a post number. All of these name the same post and all of them work:
- The normal post link you get from Share
- The same link with the single-message parameter Telegram adds when a post is part of an album
- The web preview link, the one with an extra segment before the channel name
- The older telegram.me domain, which some links still use
What does not work, and why
- A channel link with no post number. That names the channel, not a video. Open the specific post and copy its link.
- Private channels. Links to private channels carry an internal numeric id instead of a channel name, and the content is only reachable by members. SubGrab is not logged in to Telegram and cannot see them.
- Anything requiring an invite. Same reason.

Accuracy, honestly
Telegram video is a mixed bag for speech recognition. A studio-recorded briefing transcribes very well. A phone clip filmed in a crowd, with wind and overlapping voices, transcribes badly, and no tool will fix that. The audio you feed in sets the ceiling.
Channel video is also frequently not in English. Transcription handles many languages, but accuracy varies more for languages with less training data than it does for English.
