What's New on SubGrab — Q2 2026 Update
A roundup of everything that landed on SubGrab between March and May 2026: 1-click pay, 5 new platforms, AI summaries, and how we cut transcription latency.
Heads-up — we've shipped a lot since you last visited. Here's the rundown of what's new on SubGrab over the last few months.
1-Click Repurchase
The biggest UX upgrade of the quarter. Once you've bought your first credit pack, every subsequent purchase is a single click — no Stripe redirect, no card re-entry.
How it works:
- First purchase: you go through Stripe Checkout once, your card is saved securely with Stripe (we never see card numbers)
- Every purchase after that: tap "Buy" → credits land in your account in ~300ms
- Removable any time from your dashboard
It's the same Stripe Radar fraud protection on every charge, just without the redirect dance. The full transparency write-up is in our 1-click pay post.
5 More Platforms Supported
SubGrab now supports 22 video platforms. The new additions:
- Reddit videos — full Reddit hosted videos via the redd.it API
- Rumble — AI-only (Rumble has no captions); see our Rumble transcript guide
- Bilibili — Chinese video platform, AI handles the audio
- Wistia — caption extraction + AI fallback
- Brightcove — caption extraction + AI fallback
That's on top of the existing YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, Loom, LinkedIn, Dailymotion, and Twitch (VODs + Clips).
AI Video Summaries
After extracting a transcript, you can now generate a structured AI summary in seconds — key takeaways, timestamped timeline, notable quotes. Perfect for turning 45-minute podcasts into 2-minute reads.
Your first AI summary is free (separate from the 2 free credits you get on signup). After that it's 1 credit per summary.
YouTube Caption Extraction Got Faster
We rebuilt the YouTube extraction pipeline in May after running into datacenter-IP blocks. The new flow:
- Direct-first extraction (no proxy needed for ~95% of videos)
- Residential-proxy fallback when YouTube serves a bot challenge
- Split-mode proxy: only the lightweight Innertube calls (≈300KB) go through the proxy; the heavy audio download (multi-MB) goes direct via curl
Net effect for users: caption extraction is now 2-3× faster on YouTube and we cut our proxy bandwidth by ~99%.
Better Error Messages
When AI transcription fails, we now classify the failure into one of 12 specific kinds — private video, region-blocked, no audio track, password-protected, language mismatch, etc. The credit is automatically refunded and the error message tells you exactly what to try instead.
Account Linking for Twitch Sign-In
If you signed up with magic link and later tried "Sign in with Twitch" using the same email, the old behavior threw an error. Now Twitch sign-in links to your existing account automatically (same email = same person). Sign in however you want, whenever you want.
Privacy + Storage Recap
Nothing changed here — but worth restating for the record:
- Audio files are never stored. Processed in memory, deleted immediately.
- Caption transcripts (free content from YouTube/Vimeo/TikTok) are cached globally to serve other users instantly.
- AI transcripts (where we ran your audio through Whisper) are stored per-user only — never shared.
- Card data lives with Stripe, not with us. We store an opaque customer ID + last 4 digits for display.
What's Next
We've got a few things in flight for Q3:
- Multi-card support (right now we save one card; some power users want more)
- Bulk transcript export (download all your transcripts as a zip)
- A few more platforms based on user requests — let us know which ones at help@subgrab.com
TL;DR
Your free credit is still there. The product is meaningfully better than when you signed up. If you've been meaning to come back, now's a great time.
