### Step 1: Paste a Video URL (or Upload a File)
Copy any video/audio URL from a supported platform and paste it into the input box on subgrab.com — or upload an MP4/MOV/WebM/MP3/WAV/M4A/OGG file directly. For uploads, the browser extracts a compact audio track locally before sending, so even large videos upload in seconds.

### Step 2: Extract or Transcribe
SubGrab checks for existing captions first (YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, TikTok, Wistia, Brightcove). If captions exist, the transcript is extracted instantly for free. If not, SubGrab offers AI transcription using Groq Whisper Large v3 Turbo — 1 credit per hour of audio.

## Limits

- Any URL: up to 10 hours of audio.
- Uploaded files: bounded by upload size, roughly 50 minutes. For longer content paste the URL.
- Livestream VOD platforms (Twitch VODs, Kick, CHZZK, SOOP): up to 10 hours per VOD — a full unedited broadcast.
- Only publicly accessible content can be transcribed — private, password-protected, VIP/DRM, or login-walled videos cannot.

## AI Summary

The summary is a detailed structured document, not a blurb: a short overview, a chapter-by-chapter breakdown with timestamps covering the whole video, key takeaways, notable quotes with timestamps, and any concrete facts/figures mentioned. Length scales with the video — a 3-hour podcast gets a much deeper summary than a 60-second reel. Summaries are written in the same language as the transcript.

### What if the video has no captions?
SubGrab detects that captions are unavailable and offers AI transcription instead — 1 credit per hour of audio, typically 30–90 seconds of processing. It works for any public video with audible speech.

### Is it free?

### Do I need an account?
Free caption extraction needs no account. Sign in (email magic link or Google) to use AI features or your transcript history.

### How are long videos charged?
1 credit per started hour of audio: up to 60 minutes = 1 credit, a 2-hour video = 2 credits, up to the 4-hour cap.

### Can I transcribe Japanese, Korean, or Chinese videos?
Yes — that's a core strength. Niconico, Naver TV, CHZZK, SOOP, WeTV, Weibo, and Bilibili are supported directly, and Whisper's Japanese/Korean/Mandarin accuracy is excellent. The transcript comes back in the original language, ready to read, study, or translate.

### Can I transcribe a livestream?
Not while it's live. Once the broadcast ends and becomes a VOD (Twitch, Kick, CHZZK, SOOP), paste the VOD link — up to 10 hours per VOD.

### What about Douyin, Youku, iQIYI, or Spotify?
Not currently supported: Douyin's extraction path is broken platform-side for all tools right now; Youku/iQIYI/Tencent Video block overseas access or use DRM; Spotify is DRM-protected. The universal fallback is file upload: save the media, upload it, get the same transcript.

### Is my data private?
Video/audio content is not stored — only the transcript text and basic metadata (title, thumbnail). Audio processed for AI transcription is deleted immediately after transcription.

### What formats can I download?
